Sweetened Condensed Milk with Oat milk (Vegan)
This is only 3 ingredients and so easy to make. Dairy free, egg free and tastes wonderful. It can be used in everything from your morning coffee to ice cream and keeps well in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
I love being able to make my own sweetened condensed milk. I have trouble finding anything other than coconut based condensed milk and I don’t always want my baked goods to have a coconut flavor. Coconut has its place but not in everything.
It takes 3 ingredients and 45 minutes. I make mine with oat milk because it has a very neutral flavor that can be used in anything, but you can use whatever milk you like. The beauty of making it at home is that you have complete control over how it tastes, you decide how much to make, what milk you want to use and how sweet you want it to be. You also have the opportunity to add some flavor like cinnamon, almond extract, chocolate or give it a fall spice flare. Your taste buds are making all the decisions, have fun with it. Please make and enjoy.
Sweetened Condensed Milk with Oat milk (Vegan)
Ingredients
- 2 cups oat milk
- ¾ cup cane sugar
- ½ tbsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Add the milk and sugar to a medium pot, set over medium heat and stir until the sugar is dissolved.Allow it to come to a boil and then turn the heat down, allowing it to simmer until it has reduced by half. This will take about 45 minutes. Stir occasionally to keep from burning. The milk will start to thicken slightly and start to become a more caramelized color.
- Once it has reduced by half, remove from heat and add the vanilla, stir to combine. Pour into a heat safe container and allow to cool. Once cool, place in the refrigerator in an airtight container, should last up to 2 weeks. The condensed milk with seem a little thin but will thicken as it cools.
